Tree tunnels, concrete tunnels, and a covered bridge? This trail is a treat to hike or bike, especially when you’re led through three different covered areas along its path. Come check out what the Prairie Sunset Trail has in store for us, including tunnels galore and plenty of nature to go around.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nominate/
Do you like adventure and a bit of excitement? Kansas has a lot of hidden little places that you just need to look in the right direction for. On the Prairie Sunset Trail, you’ve got miles of beautiful scenery to travel over.
From a spot near Goddard all the way to Garden Plain, this trail evolves as it goes along.
From mile to mile, this trail is something a little different, from tree canopies to railroads and open grassy plains.
One of our favorite features is this little concrete tunnel, a great spot to take a break from the sun that might be giving you a hard time on this mostly flat trail.
Next is this little covered bridge, a fun spot to slow down and really enjoy during the fall months. Of course, it’s just as beautiful in the spring but nothing goes better together than red leaves and a covered bridge.
The third tunnel you’ll find here is a tree tunnel, an almost complete canopy of trees that surround the path on both sides. It’s just a stunning trail from end to end.
12 or so miles there, and 12 or so miles back means that you’ve got lots of time to spend outdoors. Bring a picnic lunch, take your good walking shoes, and enjoy this easy trail with tunnels galore.
We would love to see and hear about your favorite hiking/biking trail in Kansas. If you can, tell us about it at this link here!

The routes can be sorted and/or
filtered by route name, tag, location, distance, elevation
and creation date. Clicking on a route takes you to
the route map, cue sheet and GPS files, which can be
downloaded to a Garmin unit. OHBTC is following a naming
convention of using the first two initials of the start
location, the distance and destination as the route
name, e.g.,
BR 44 Riverside is a 44-mile route from Bryans Road
Shopping Center to Riverside.
