Birmingham Police officer injured in pursuit with stolen vehicle

A Birmingham Police officer suffered minor injuries in a crash during a pursuit with a stolen vehicle.Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin of the BPD says officers were behind the stolen vehicle this evening on Highway 78 and Dugan Avenue, when the officer was involved in a crash.The suspects ran away after the crash and all three suspects were taken in custody a short time later.The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was called in to assist in the search for the suspects.Highway 78 in that area was closed, while officers were in the area searching for the suspects.

Indiana Officer Injured in On-Duty Vehicle Collision – Patrol

An officer with the Michigan City (IN) Police Department was injured when his patrol vehicle was struck by another motorist, causing both cars to leave the roadway on Thursday afternoon.

The agency posted on Facebook, “Detective Scott Combs, the driver of the police vehicle, was transported to an area hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the civilian vehicle involved in the collision—identified as 35-year-old Michael Johnson—was uninjured.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Detective Combs was on duty traveling westbound on Tremont Street. Detective Combs was not responding to any calls and did not have his police lights or siren activated. While approaching an intersection Johnson failed to stop for the stop sign posted there and collided with Combs’ police SUV, police say.

Detective Combs is a seven-year veteran of the Michigan City Police Department and is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer for the MCAS middle schools.

He is expected to recover.

A Charleroi police officer is facing charges after being accused of stealing Oxycontin pills and $47 in cash from a stolen vehicle.The alleged incident happened on March 27 when, according to state police, officer William Garden was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle that was reported to be stolen.Police said after taking the pills and cash, Gardner allegedly falsified reports on the incident.State police said they interviewed Gardner and he allegedly admitted to the theft.Gardner, who works with the Charleroi Regional Police Department, has been placed on administrative leave and, according to the department, will remain on leave as the investigation and potential filing of criminal charges progresses.Charleroi police said as this is a pending criminal and personnel matter, no further comment will be made at this time.

CPD officer struck by vehicle fleeing traffic stop in North Lawndale on West Side: police

CHICAGO (WLS) — An on-duty Chicago police officer was struck by a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop Monday in North Lawndale on the West Side, police said.

According to police, around 2:40 a.m. officers in a marked squad car were conducting a traffic stop on a 2015 Buick Lacrosse in the 1100-block of S. Troy Avenue.

When officers approached the vehicle, they observed two men with open alcohol, police said.

One officer opened the driver side door when the driver put the vehicle in reverse striking him and fleeing in an unknown direction, police said.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with injuries to both legs, police said. He is in good condition.

The Buick was later discovered unoccupied by responding officers in the 1100-block of S. Whipple Street, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

No one is in custody.
