Woman on bicycle dies in Sebastian Florida crash; IRCSO investigates

SEBASTIAN — A bicyclist was struck and killed Friday night on Sebastian Boulevard, according to the Sebastian Police Department and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the boulevard between Easy Street and Delaware Avenue, authorities said.

Deputies described the bicyclist as a 78-year-old woman. She collided with a pickup driven by a 52-year-old man, the Sheriff’s Office said. The man left the scene, but later returned, deputies said.

Neither the names of the woman nor the driver have been released.

The Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for the case, said Sebastian Police spokesman Capt. Timothy Wood.
