Car Insurance – Find Cheap Car Insurance Quotes Near You

Written on May, 03, 2020 by iwano@_84 | No Comments

Why do you need car insurance?

Car insurance is a must if you own or operate a car. Most states require you to carry car insurance, and without it, you face financial disaster if you cause a serious accident and get sued.

Beyond the mandated liability car insurance, it can also pay to repair your vehicle if it gets damaged in a crash or natural disaster, like hail or wildfire, or is vandalized or stolen – if you have chosen the right coverages to be on your policy.

Car insurance coverages

One policy can include several types of coverage.

Some car insurance coverages are required by your state’s law, like liability, and others are optional and provide added protection. Optional means by law you don’t have to buy the coverage, however, if you have a lease or loan on your vehicle your financing company can mandate you carry certain coverages, namely collision and comprehensive.

When shopping for affordable car insurance it’s prudent that you know what coverages you want to get the best policy for your specific situation. First, be aware that liability coverage limits are expressed as three numbers, for example 25/50/25. These limits are per accident and provide bodily injury liability up to $25,000 per person injured, up to $50,000 of coverage for all injuries, and up to $25,000 for property damage. Limits of at least 100/300/50 are recommended as medical bills and values of cars are on the rise.

Collision and comprehensive are physical damage coverages that protect your vehicle. They are typically paired together. You don’t choose a maximum limit for these coverages; it’s assigned by your insurer as the fair market value at the time of any accident that would find your car a total loss. Both collision and comp claim payments are reduced by the amount of your chosen deductible. See below for more detailed information plus descriptions of other types of car insurance:

Liability insurance pays for others’ damage and injuries when you cause an accident. Most states require you to carry at least a minimum level of bodily injury and property damage liability coverage. Liability coverage pays out to other people; it does not cover you, your passengers or your car.

Collision coverage is an optional coverage that pays to repair or replace your own vehicle after a crash. It pays if you are at-fault in an accident with another vehicle. It also covers other situations, such as if you hit a tree, roll your car or are hit by an uninsured driver. Comes with a deductible.

Comprehensive pays out if your car is stolen, if you hit an animal or if your car is vandalized. It also pays for damaged by a natural disaster, such as hurricane, tornado, floodwaters or high winds.

Personal injury protection (PIP) and medical payments (MedPay) are two separate coverages but both pay the medical bills for you and your passengers after a car accident, regardless of who caused the crash. PIP also covers lost wages and

Car Insurance Myths: Do I Need Rental Car Insurance?

Written on May, 02, 2020 by iwano@_84 | No Comments

When you rent a car, it can be hard to know if you need rental insurance coverage. For some drivers it’s a necessity, and for others it’s a redundant expense.

first things first: does my car insurance cover rental cars?

The limits and deductibles on your regular car insurance policy typically still apply to your rental car so long as you drive it for personal use. If it’s a commercial or business rental, your personal car insurance coverage may not apply.

However, be sure to check your car insurance policy or call your insurance company to find out which coverages extend to your rental car.

If you’ll be paying for the rental with a credit card, check with your credit card company to see what additional rental car coverage is provided. Call the number on the back of the card you use to pay for the rental before buying extra protection.

know your at-the-counter options

There are generally 4 coverage options available when you rent a car.

  • Loss-damage waiver (aka collision damage waiver)
    • Typically waives financial responsibility if the rental car’s damaged or stolen; also covers loss-of-use charges while the rental’s in the shop, towing charges, and related fees
    • Costs roughly $9–$19 a day
  • Liability coverage
    • This state-required coverage protects you from potential lawsuits
    • Costs around $7–$14 a day
  • Personal accident insurance
    • Covers medical costs after an accident
    • Costs $1–$5 a day
  • Personal effects coverage
    • Insures what you keep in the rental car
    • Costs $1–4 a day

the tempting add-on

Basic car insurance typically covers you in the event you cause injury or property damage while driving a rental. Likewise, comprehensive and collision coverage guard against damage to the rental car itself. But if you don’t have those 2 optional protections, consider the loss-of-use waiver, which, of the 4 rental car insurance add-ons above, offers the most protection.

Check with your insurer on whether rental car insurance is a good idea before you make a decision, and ask about potential administrative and loss-of-use fees levied by the rental company. Your comprehensive and collision coverage may be all you need.

depending on your policies …

If you have reliable auto insurance, renters/home insurance, and health insurance, you can save a good chunk of change by declining the other 3 coverages. Here’s why:

  • When you buy auto insurance, you’re required to buy a state-mandated amount of liability coverage (except in New Hampshire, where it’s optional), meaning you likely won’t need to add it at the counter.
  • If you have health insurance, consider declining personal accident insurance if your health plan covers accident-related injuries. If you have personal injury protection and/or medical payments coverage on your car insurance policy, it would also offer the same protection if an accident occurs.
  • And finally, if you have renters or homeowners insurance with off-premises coverage, your things are already insured before you stash them in the rental car. So consider declining personal

How do I compare car insurance to get the best cover for me?

The most important aspect of car insurance is making sure your have the right cover. If you focus too much on price, you may end up getting inadequate cover, which could cost you hundreds of pounds when you make a claim.

All UK drivers must have car insurance, unless the vehicle is officially registered as ‘off the road’. There are three levels of car insurance cover to compare:

Third party: While this is the most basic level of cover, it’s not always the cheapest car insurance when you compare quotes. It typically covers any compensation you may have to pay out to a third party, for causing any damage or injury. It also fulfills the minimum legal insurance requirements for UK drivers.

Third party, fire and theft: This kind of car insurance is exactly like third party. The only difference is that it also covers your car in case it is damaged by fire or stolen.

Comprehensive: A comprehensive car insurance policy will cover the cost of damage to your own vehicle, including in cases where an accident was your fault. Fully comprehensive insurance covers events like fixing your car after a collision, and damage by vandals. In some cases it may also allow you to drive other cars under the same policy.

How can I get the best car insurance quote?

Finding cheap car insurance and the best price for you means knowing what insurers look for when deciding how much to charge you in premiums, and how to compare quotes.

Make yourself a low risk driver

Car insurance companies like low risk drivers. They are less likely you are to make a claim, the cheaper your car insurance will be.

Some things you can do to lower the cost of car insurance include:

  • Adding safety features to your car like an alarm
  • Parking it in a driveway or garage
  • Choose a cheaper popular model.
  • Lower driving mileage

Some insurance companies offer discounts for drivers who have taken an advanced driving course, or who agree to have a telematics,or ‘black box’, fitted to monitor safe driving.

How to get cheap car insurance

Use the car insurance comparison tool to compare car insurance quotes from a wide range of companies to get a cheap deal. Read the Key Features document to ensure that it also offers all of the right coverage for you so it pays out when you need it.

Car insurance is typically more expensive for the over 70s and under 25s, so they should compare quotes from a number of insurance companies.

If you are renewing your car insurance, it helps to shop around and go back to your current insurer and ask them to beat the best quote you find.

Other ways to cut the cost of car insurance include:

Pay your premiums annually: Paying for your car insurance in full for the whole year, rather than in monthly

Insurance Quotes – Compare Auto,Health,Home and Life Insurance

Getting Insurance Quotes Made Simple

You don’t have to be an expert to get a good deal on your insurance premiums — that’s what we’re here for. Whether it’s auto, home, life or health insurance, and no matter what stage of life you’re in, we can educate you on how insurance works to protect you, your family and your assets. We also break down how pricing works, explain how much insurance you need for your particular situation and guide you through the buying process so you can be sure you’re getting the best deal on the right policy.

Smart ways to get online insurance quotes

  1. Compare multiple companies When you’re shopping for insurance quotes to find the best rates, and best fit for your family’s needs, you need to obtain free insurance quotes from multiple companies. Our experts say always choose three or more to compare.
  2. Compare apples to apples when getting insurance quotes You always want to compare identical amounts of coverage when obtaining online quotes, so you have an apples-to-apples comparison. If the limits or deductibles differ, you are not getting a real comparison.
  3. Look beyond the cost of the policy The premium you pay is a big deal, but also read reviews of policyholders to see what they say about things that matter – such as customer service and claims – and also check the company’s financial security. You want to make sure the insurer has the financial means to pay out claims if you have them.
  4. Buy online insurance with confidence After finding the company you prefer, finish the process by completing any required forms and purchase the policy. Don’t forget to find out if the policy starts immediately or on a future date.

Florida Car Insurance – Quotes, Coverage & Requirements

Written on Apr, 05, 2020 by iwano@_84 | No Comments

Florida Car Insurance

Florida law requires residents of FL to have car insurance. You must purchase the minimum coverage amounts for both personal injury protection (PIP) insurance and property damage liability (PDL) car insurance.

Luckily, Florida offsets this coverage requirement by offering some of the lowest car insurance coverage minimums in the country.

Learn more about Florida’s car insurance requirements, the effects of traffic violations on premium costs, and how to get the best quotes on car insurance available.

FL Auto Insurance Requirements

Florida is a
no-fault insurance state. If you are injured in an accident, your car insurance will pay your medical costs up to your policy’s limits, regardless of who caused the accident.

The
minimum limits for Florida car insurance coverage are:

  • $10,000 of no-fault or personal injury protection (PIP) insurance.
  • $10,000 of property damage liability (PDL) insurance.

Personal Injury Protection

In addition to covering your part of any medical expenses and income loss that result from a car accident, your
Personal Injury Protection, or PIP, insurance will also cover:

  • Your child and other members of your household.
  • Your child (when he or she is riding on a school bus).
  • You (when you are a pedestrian or bicyclist involved in a car accident.)
  • Passengers in your car who do not have their own PIP insurance and do not own a car.

Anyone in your car who has PIP car insurance will be covered by his or her own policy if you get in a car accident. Likewise, your PIP car insurance will cover you while you are a passenger in someone else’s car.

Property Damage Liability

Property Damage Liability (PDL) auto insurance in Florida will cover you for damages you cause in a car accident to someone else’s property, such as homes or buildings.

Violation Penalties and Fines

The Florida
Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) requires your insurance company to electronically notify them if there is a cancellation of your insurance policy.

If the DHSMV has
no record of your current car insurance policy, you will be notified by mail. The notification will give you a date of suspension. If you are not able to provide the DHSMV a proof of insurance before the suspension date, your driver’s license, plates, and registration will all be suspended.

To
reinstate these, you will have to provide proof of Florida insurance and pay a fee of:

  • $150 for your first offense.
  • $250 for your second offense.
  • $500 for each offense after.

If you are able to provide proof of insurance to the DHSMV
before the date of suspension, you will not face any penalties.

You can provide your proof of insurance:

If you no longer own the car, surrender your plates and registration to the Florida DHSMV to avoid suspension of your FL
