WATCH: Two seriously injured in Baysvillage accident

Two people, one being a male security guard employed by Bloemsec, and the other an unknown female, were seriously injured yesterday afternoon when a police vehicle veered off the road onto the parking area of the  Baysvillage Shopping Complex in Bayswater, Bloemfontein.

In a video that has been circulating on social media a police vehicle can be seen leaving the road and hitting two people in the parking area of the complex after it overturned.

Both injured people were taken to hospital in an ambulance. They both are in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the police vehicle had no visible injuries. The other police members were also examined at the hospital.

According to police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, the accident occurred at the corner of Muller and Waverly Roads in Bloemfontein. He explained that on arrival members of the South African Police Services discovered that a marked police vehicle was involved in the accident.

Covane said it is alleged that both of the injured were hit by the police van and were found laying injured on the pavement. A white pickup truck was also damaged in the accident.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Bayswater Police Station.
