New York Jets assistant coach dies following bicycle accident

New York Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp, 58, died Thursday after a bicycle accident that occurred five days earlier.

“While his family, friends and players still had so much to learn from him and desperately wished they had more time with him, God called an audible and wanted to go over the game plan directly with him. It will certainly be a masterpiece, just like Greg!” his family said in a statement on his death.

The incident happened near Knapp’s home in San Ramon, Calif., about 30 miles from Oakland.

Knapp never regained consciousness in the five days after the crash. The driver, whose name has not been released, was not under the influence of drugs and is working with police in the investigation, ESPN reported.

Knapp was surrounded by his mother, wife, three daughters and brother when he died.

“Greg had such an inner peace about him that people always seemed to gravitate towards,” New York Jets coach Robert Saleh said in a statement. “He lived life in a loving way that helped him connect with people from all walks of life in a unique way.

“In his short time here, I believe the people in this organization had a chance to experience that connection. Greg, thank you for all that you have shared with us, you will be missed brother,” Saleh added.

Knapp joined the Jets at the beginning of the year as a passing-game specialist and has been with many teams over his coaching career that began in 1997.

“He was a tremendous football coach who achieved at the highest levels of our game, but more importantly he was a wonderful person who had the love, admiration and respect of those who were blessed to work with him,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. “Rest In Peace, Greg Knapp.”

Knapp was set to work with three young quarterbacks the Jets had and was going to travel to New Jersey just a few days after the incident to begin the season.

“In his short time with us, Greg had an immediate influence on those who had the pleasure of spending the smallest amount of time with him,” Jets chairman Woody Johnson’s statement reads. “His legacy is not only working with some of the brightest quarterbacks the league has ever seen, but the countless others across this world he has had an indelibly positive influence on.”

Bicycle Accident Attorney | Charlotte

Now that both North and South Carolina families have been functioning under stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 for over a month, more folks are participating in outdoor activities like bicycling. It is beautiful to see so many families and friends outside riding bikes; however with more people cycling, the risk of injury increases.

With the decline of automobile traffic, the roads have become more appealing to cyclists. However, bicycle injuries go beyond the occasional bruise from a pedal or scraped knee; many can be very serious and even deadly. Following bicycle safety and traffic, rules are of utmost importance to keep you and your family safe.

Here are 3 tips on bicycle safety:

           • Wear the proper equipment for protection and to increase visibility. Be sure you have a helmet, bright clothing, reflective gear and lights or reflectors that make others aware of you.

           • Always ride in the same direction as automobile traffic and if you are in a group, ride single file.

           • Never wear earbuds or headphones while riding a bike. In addition to being distracted by music or other audio, this impairs your hearing and ultimately could cause a bike accident.

While no one wants to be involved in a bicycle accident, 857 people were killed in bike accidents in 2018. These accidents all involved motor vehicles and were primarily caused by distracted drivers – both cyclists and vehicle operators – who “just didn’t see” the other person.

Protect yourself and your family by following bicycle safety. If you or a family member suffers from the unfortunate event of a severe bicycle accident, it may be time to contact an experienced bicycle accident attorney. At Campbell & Associates, we understand the serious nature of a bicycle accident and know that often bike injuries have lasting consequences, both medically and financially.

MADISON – Joe Hedstrom feared the worst when he learned the details of the gruesome injuries his father suffered during a bicycle accident on April 5 in Minnesota.

Peter Hedstrom suffered a traumatic brain injury, a skull fracture, a broken collarbone, three broken ribs, bruised lungs and a fractured ear canal.

“Once you hear that you break down a little bit,” Hedstrom, a redshirt freshman center on the Wisconsin men’s basketball team, said by phone Tuesday. “Your thoughts when things happen like that tend to go to the worst-case scenario. So, I definitely thought about things like that.”

About losing his father, who is only 59.

Later that night, doctors delivered an encouraging update.

“It was great news when we heard he was stable,” Hedstrom said. “He’s not going to die today. He’s going to make a full recovery, Lord willing.”

The 16-plus days Peter Hedstrom spent in a hospital, including the first five in the intensive care unit, tested the strength of the family members, brought them closer together and in the end buoyed their faith because of the generosity of others who raised more than $17,000 through a gofundme page.

“It has been crazy to see the amount of support,” Joe Hedstrom said. “It has meant a lot to us.”

The ordeal started on a gorgeous spring day near Lake Minnetonka. Joe Hedstrom and his brother Eric were fishing. Peter Hedstrom and his wife, Sharon, went for a bike ride.

“They were going down a hill,” Joe Hedstrom explained, noting his father was wearing a helmet. “It’s a crappy part of the road with so many little divots and pot holes. They both had both hands on their bikes. They weren’t doing anything crazy. It was a freak accident in my mind.

“And my dad is so steady and careful. He is very careful about always driving the speed limit, always wearing a seat belt and always wearing a helmet, which was a huge deal.

“The helmet saved his life the doctors told us.”

According to Joe Hedstrom, his father was rushed by ambulance to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. His mother was allowed to ride along.

After spending five days in the intensive care unit, Peter Hedstrom was moved to a trauma rehabilitation floor. He was discharged from the hospital and returned home on April 21. According to Joe Hedstrom, his father is aware of his surroundings, speaking clearly and glad to be home. He isn’t allowed to drive or return to his job at a non-profit organization, however.

“Honestly, it’s just a miracle that he is doing as well as he is and he has been able to make such amazing progress in the last three weeks,” Joe Hedstrom said.

Free VIN Check and Vehicle History Report. Find Accident History & More

How To Get a Vehicle History Report

A vehicle history report (or VIN check) is an invaluable tool if you are planning on buying or selling a vehicle. As a buyer, you can use a vehicle history report to give you peace of mind that the vehicle you are thinking of purchasing is in good condition. On the other hand, if you are selling a vehicle then a clean history report can help entice potential buyers.

vehicle history report

How to Obtain a Vehicle History Report

You can obtain both free and paid VIN lookups. Free vehicle records will typically include less information than paid ones, but they may be sufficient depending on what information you need. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) offers a free VinCheck. As with a complete vehicle history report, you will need to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) when using VinCheck. You can also only make up to five searches within a 24-hour period and certain vehicle records may take up to six months to be updated with VinCheck.

Alternatively, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers a more limited history report. The NHTSA’s search tool is useful mainly if you want to see if your vehicle or any of its parts have been recalled.

Third-party databases, including, also offer both free and paid VIN lookups. The paid records offered through third-party companies tend to be the most complete. The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System provides a list of approved providers of vehicle information and history data. Note that some approved providers will only provide records to car dealers and not directly to consumers.

What is Included in a Vehicle History Report

Not all vehicle history reports will include the same information, but in general you can expect your VIN report to include some or all of the following:

  • Accident history
  • Previous owners
  • Liens held against the vehicle
  • Recalls
  • Flood damage
  • Title checks
  • History of airbag deployments
  • Maintenance record
  • Problems with the odometer
  • Records of theft

Note that not all VIN checks will include the same type of information. A record from the NICB, for example, is designed to prevent the exchange of stolen vehicles, so it’s great if you want to make sure that the car in question wasn’t reported stolen. On the other hand, it won’t include much information about that vehicle’s maintenance history.

Vehicle Records from the DMV

Most DMV’s don’t provide vehicle history records. However, many do provide vehicle registration and title abstracts, which contain much of the same information that you would find in a history report. In New York, for example, the registration abstract includes some useful history information, such as parking fines and insurance lapses. A title record abstract, meanwhile, will include information about previous owners of the vehicle.

License Plate and VIN Search

In many cases, looking up a car’s VIN is simply about peace of mind. Every car built after 1980 has its own VIN, which is unique to that vehicle.

MADISON – The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program, which lost two members of its extended family last May, suffered another blow this month.

Peter Hedstrom, the father of redshirt freshman center Joe Hedstrom, suffered serious injuries in a bicycle accident April 9 and remains in North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family:

“On Sunday April 5th, 2020 Peter lost control of his bicycle and crashed on the road while riding with his wife Sharon. Peter was rushed to North Memorial hospital in an ambulance with his wife. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, cracked skull, broken collarbone, bruised lungs, three broken ribs and a fractured ear canal. It’s a miracle that he is alive; God saved his life.

“Peter spent 5 days in the Intensive Care Unit and is now on the trauma rehabilitation floor. He does not remember the accident, but we are encouraged by the progress he is making. He tells his family: ‘Keep up the good work. Trust in the Lord.’ ”

More than $4,000 had been raised by Wednesday morning.

Joe Hedstrom, a graduate of Hopkins High School, redshirted in 2018-19 and played in six games last season before undergoing season-ending knee surgery.

The 2019-20 season was tumultuous but also rewarding for the players and coaches. Assistant coach Howard Moore suffered severe burns and lost his wife and daughter in an auto accident in Michigan on Memorial Day weekend.

The team dedicated the season to the Moore family and won its final eight games to finish 14-6 in the Big Ten to secure a share of the league title for the first time since 2015.

6 Things to Do After a Miami Bicycle Accident

You may enjoy biking on a regular basis in Miami. Taking a bike ride in Miami is a great source of exercise and a form of freedom, after all.

However, you may not have thought of the possibility of getting into a bicycle accident. Even if you are extremely safe, there’s always the chance that something could happen. This is why it’s important to be prepared if it does.

Riding bikes can be fun, but there are certain scenarios that can lead to an accident. Here are things to do after a bicycle accident to ensure you receive a fair amount for your injuries and damage to your bike.

1. Call the Miami Police

As soon as the accident occurs, it is important for you, or someone who is nearby, to call the police. Then, you must wait for the police to arrive at the scene. Once they get there, they will take a complete police report and file it.

Even if you don’t think you are injured, you must stay for the police to write the report. Many Miami cyclists who have been in an accident don’t realize they are injured until several hours after the accident.

Plus, some injuries that seem minor at the time end up causing more serious or chronic problems later on. If you ride away from the accident before the police can identify the at-fault driver, you may be stuck paying expensive medical bills later on.

Even if the driver seems to be apologetic, it’s important that the Miami police make a report. You can’t take someone’s word that they were at fault. Often, the driver may admit blame at the scene of the bike accident, but later deny it or even act as if they weren’t even there.

The Miami police will provide proof of the accident and may even ticket the driver. This could help settle your case with the insurance company later on.

2. Give Your Statement

When the police officer is writing up the report on the accident, make sure you share your version of the accident. Sometimes, a police officer will take a statement from the driver but skip talking to the bicyclist.

You have the right to share your side of the story. So do everything you can to have it written into the police report.

Be sure to include all of your injuries, even if it is just a minor scratch or burn. As mentioned, those could turn into something more severe later on.

Unfortunately, the police officer may not include your statement in the police report. If this is the case, then you can later have the report amended.

3. Get the Driver’s Name

While you are still at the scene of the accident, it’s important to take down the driver’s information, including their name, address, phone number, driver’s license number, vehicle license number, and insurance information.

It also can’t hurt to get the names and contact information of everyone who was a witness to the

Myrtle Beach Bicycle Accident Attorney

The Waccamaw Neck Bikeway, Huntington Beach State Park, the Conway Riverwalk, the Horry County Bike and Run Park, Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens, and the East Coast Greenway are bike trails the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau lists on its website. In addition to trails designed specifically for bicycles, many people in the Myrtle Beach area also use bikes as regular means of transportation, including getting to and from work by riding on city streets.

As relaxing and serene a setting as South Carolina might seem for leisurely bike rides, bicycle accidents still occur with disturbing regularity. Many of these crashes involve motor vehicles, and driver negligence is usually to blame.

The immediate aftermath of any bicycle accident is an incredibly stressful and confusing time for a person. Most victims face overwhelming medical bills in addition to an inability to return to work.

If you suffered severe injuries or your loved one was killed in a bicycle accident in Myrtle Beach, you should retain legal representation as soon as possible. Bicycle crash victims are not treated with the same level of respect as the drivers or passengers of motor vehicles, and insurance companies make it very difficult for victims to obtain compensation in these cases. The Law Office of William J. Luse will fight to make sure that you recover all of the compensation you need and deserve. You can have our Myrtle Beach bicycle accident attorney provide an honest and thorough evaluation of your case when you call (843) 839-4795 or complete an online contact form to set up a consultation.

Why Do I Need a Bicycle Accident Lawyer?

Some bicycle accident victims are tempted to believe that they will be able to handle their own injury cases and, thus, keep more of the money they recover for themselves by forgoing an attorney. This logic invariably backfires in one of two ways.

In some cases, a victim may be offered a lump sum settlement to resolve their case. While a settlement may be large enough to cover all of a victim’s past medical expenses, it often leaves nothing else for all future expenses and victims who accept settlements must then pay all of those costs of out of their own pocket.

In other cases, insurers will argue that it was actually the bicyclist who was at fault. Not all insurance companies immediately pursue this tactic, but they will make their position more clear after they get the victim to unknowingly admit to negligence during recorded phone calls.

You want an attorney specifically to deal with these insurance companies on your behalf. The lawyer will also be able to conduct an independent investigation to determine the cause, collect important evidence, and identify all liable parties.
